Many gamers who haven’t been fortunate enough to play the Mass Effect series from the start will now have the ability to follow what’s going on, thanks to BioWare’s smarts.
Mass Effect 3 will allow new gamers to the franchise to be able to pick up the game and play. In an interview with IGN, Nick Clifford, Mass Effect 3 product marketer, said that the team is working easing new players into the story. He said that within the game, there will be a “story so far narrative” that gamers could follow.
"If I'm a new player and some guy walks up to me and is like 'Ohhhh Shepard! Remember that one time?' I would be like 'No. I don't remember that one time,'" Clifford says. "So we wanted to make sure that there aren't those moments that the player is like, 'Who is this? What's going on? What are they talking about?'”
This will be a great addition to allow newcomers to the franchise to experience the game and still know what has happened.
I actually started playing Mass Effect 2 again recently and since I haven’t had the pleasure of playing the first one, I was a little lost at some points as well because characters would make references to the previous game or DLC and I wouldn’t know what they were on about. Clifford refused to give detailed specifics on how BioWare would do this exactly, but more information is sure to release closer to the time.
