Feb DotA Cup Booked Out

There are a number of new teams booked for the February AGASA Warcraft III: Defence of the Ancients
(DotA)
Weekend Cup
and tankh has failed to register.

Ben Greenwood, AGASA tournament director, says it is exciting to see the DotA teams rise up to compete.

“The community is really getting behind the competition. A number of the teams who competed in the January cup may have lost out on the chance to play as quite a few new teams booked early to secure one of the 16 places in the February competition. This may be why tankh, a quarter finalist in the January Cup, is not playing this time round,” he says.

However, both the January winner, Mint, and runner up, Bravado, are booked to play. Other noticeable inclusions in the competition are Pantheon Gaming, mmK and FtC. This cup will include seedings and teams will have to play games by a certain time to ensure the competition is completed by Sunday.

A number of teams have commented in the match forums that while they were convincingly beaten, the chance to play, compete and improve their skills was most valuable.

Furthermore, Greenwood says a second double elimination pool will be run for teams who crash out in the first two rounds.

“Teams which make the final play five games in a 16 team double elimination tournament. But if you lose your first two games you are out. So we have implemented a second tournament whereby teams which are eliminated in the first two rounds enter another tournament to get more game time,” he says.

However, all points gained in this lower competition will count for 1/4 their standard value. For more on the structure, click here.

To register in the competition, teams simply need to go to www.agasa.co.za/dota and click 'join'.
