Jungle Timers Coming to LoL

Jungle Timers are a staple third party application for the less experienced junglers in League of Legends (LoL). It helps them to keep track of objectives such as Blue and Red Buff, as well as Dragon and Baron. It seems Riot Games is finally giving those players what they want with in-game Jungle Timers.

There were a lot of pros and cons when it came to making this decision. On one side, a case could be made that map-level objective awareness is a significant aspect of skill and should be cultivated and practiced the more you play the game. Of course the Jungle Timers will not tell you about your opponent’s objectives because that would make the game a little too easy and take away from the view of it being a highly competitive game.

On the other side the jungle is a constant environment; unlike champions, monsters will always be where you expect them to be; unlike cooldowns, there is no variability in respawn rates. With timestamps available in the team chat window, timing of jungle monsters often came down to whoever remembered to type it out.

With the emergence of the Curse Voice Client and the way they chose to use the timers, it became almost imperative that Riot Games makes Jungle Timers an in-game feature. The new Jungle Timers will be at the top of the screen. They won't be presenting any new or hidden information; they will be presenting information that could easily be figured out with a bit of simple math.

This new addition to LoL will really help the newer teams in the LoL Telkom Do Gaming League (DGL), especially those that have a problem with keeping track of their jungle camps and when they should respawn. It will be interesting to see how this will affect the difference in skill between the higher division teams.

The 2014 League of Legends Telkom Do Gaming League is sponsored by Razer.
