Kai was able to win the WITS Heroes of Newerth (HoN) Competition this past weekend by beating all the teams in a round robin. The competition was held by The Lair as a fund raiser for the WITS Wargames Club.
The competition kicked off on Saturday morning with eight teams registered out of a total number of 16. Some big names were in attendance at the competition, namely Kai, Pantheon Gaming (pG), oWnage Ouens (0ND) and H15 (pronounced 'high-five').
The competition was held in the Old Mutual Sports Hall at WITS University and there were about 40 gamers in attendance. Teams only needed one member to represent their team, while the rest of the team could play online. The only teams fielding a full squad at the event were H15 and RealMenRandom (RMR).
The competition kicked off without any hitches and teams were able to start playing almost immediately. Gamers played off in a round robin where every team would play against every other team. The team with the highest points at the end of the day would be the overall winner.
The Kai team were able to beat every team they played against on the day and took first place. 0ND beat each team apart from Kai to take second place, while H15 lost to Kai and 0ND to take third.
The Kai team consisted of Sakkie ‘RandomHero’ Basson, Mark ‘iLLuSioN’ Woodland, Nicholas ‘Prodegy’ Bowler, Justin ‘smke’ Probyn and Rob ‘Antikas’ Clegg. The only representative of Kai at the competition was Clegg.
For winning the competition, they walked away with five Asus gift bags, $300 US Dollars and five prepaid HoN accounts. 0ND took second place and walked away with five Roccat Kova mouses and Roccat mouse pads, while H15 won five Asus tool kits.
The Lair is looking to host a similar HoN competition next month and is hoping to make the tournament an online-only tournament. More details will follow on The Lair's website.
