Hearthstone World Championships Set for Blizzcon

Blizzard has announced that there will be another Hearthstone tournament at hits year’s Blizzcon, and it will be bigger than ever before, as it has now been upgraded to the “Hearthstone World Championships.

The tournament will consist of players from each of the four regions: the Americans, Europe, China and Korea/Taiwan. Each region will have their own qualifier for the tournament, much like the Dota 2 qualifiers for The International 4, and will take the top 16 ranked Legend players from Ranked Play Seasons from April to August of this year, who will then fight for their right to be in the Hearthstone World Championships.

Only four players will make it through from each region, making the World Championships a 16 player tournament. Players will have to have three decks at the ready, as the tournament will take a best-of-five, “Last Hero Standing” format, meaning the first person to run out of decks wins the match, much like the Hearthstone Telkom Do Gaming League (DGL) 2014 Winter Leg.

South Africans hoping to gain entry into the qualifier will have to work hard to try obtain the highest legendary rank possible to gain access to the European Qualifiers, and I really hope we do get to see some local talent in the mix once the qualifiers begin in the not too distant future.

For all the information about the different qualifiers, you can check out the official Blizzard Blog post.
