Hearthstone Beta Ending 'Soon'

Developer Blizzard has revealed that the open beta for their hugely successful competitive collectible card game Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft's (HS) is drawing to a close.

According to HS community manager Christina "Zeriyah" Sims, the end is nigh which means this is also your last chance to earn the golden version of the Gelbin Mekkatorque card.

This legendary card summons a gnomish engineer along with one of four random inventions to help you in battle. The golden Gelbin is available for anyone who spends real-world money on either booster packs or Arena entry during the beta.

However, the normal version of the card, featuring the same stats but less ‘golden’ visuals, will still be available for crafting after launch.

“We’re drawing near to the end of the beta test of Hearthstone! We wanted to remind you that Golden Gelbin Mekkatorque, illustrious gnomish engineer and reward for helping us test our in-game shop, will no longer be available once the game is released,” says Sims.

“In order to get your hands on this card for your Hearthstone collection, simply purchase an Arena entry or pack of cards with real money from our in-game shop during the beta, and Golden Gelbin Mekkatorque will automatically be added to your collection. It’s that easy!”

The exact date for the end of open beta is still un-confirmed, but when responding to similar questions on the official HS forums, Sims answered with “I can't say exactly, but it is soon. Not months.”

Furthermore, the developer revealed that HS will receive a major patch upon release.

"We plan on a large patch with the release of the game that addresses many of the bugs players have been experiencing.”

“We'll have a full write-up of what is contained within the patch on patch day, but we're also planning on posting something up here on the forums that'll spark some discussion in the community before that. Stay tuned."

The launch won't affect players' existing card collections or character levels. Blizzard once wiped player accounts during beta after some major balance changes but promised to never do it again.

Hearthstone: Heroes of WarCraft is scheduled to launch ‘soon’ for the PC and Mac, with further plans for Mobile support confirmed.

There is still time to be part of the open beta.
