Artosis, First Ever HearthStone Champion

Eight of the world's most influential streamers went head-to-head this past weekend in the Blizzard Innkeeper Invitational at BlizzCon 2013.

The Invitational marked the first major tournament for HearthStone: Heroes of WarCraft and also the game's first ever 'Grandmaster of the Hearth'.

Daniel "Artosis" Stemkoski bested Octavian 'Kripparrian' Morosan 3 - 2 in an entertaining final series after suffering only a single defeat throughout the tournament.

The BlizzCon grand finals followed a best-of-five format with each player preparing three separate decks. Each player plays with their winning deck until it's eliminated, while losing players must switch to an unused deck for the rest of the series.

Artosis demolished much of the competition using an extremely volatile Paladin deck which saw him sweep past Kacem 'Alexandre' Khilaji 3 - 0 before dropping a single game, prior to the final, against Jeffrey 'Trump' Shih in a 3 - 1 win.

After drawing 2 - 2 against Kripparrian, the fifth and final game of the tournament saw Artosis pit his 'ek0p Warrior' deck against his opponents' 'Turn Eight' Mage deck.

Both decks were described as 'aggro decks' with the Warrior focusing on minion damage while the Mage opted for high damage spells.

The match [below] couldn't have been closer with Kripparrian agonisingly capable of dealing 13 damage to his 14 health opponent before using 'Blizzard' to 'suicide' the match and concede the victory to Artosis.

The tournament was surprisingly popular for a card game with the Twitch stream managing around 100 000 viewers.

Artosis was crowned 'Grandmaster of the Hearth' and awarded a special engraved tankard (cup) in recognition of his achievement.
