Okay it’s 2012, Where the Hell is Diablo?

I’m sure I’m not the only gamer who stands alone when I say that I was expecting some good news at the start of 2012. Granted it’s only been nine days since the turn of the year, but still, where the hell is my Diablo 3?

According to numerous reports around the Internet, an American retail chain known as Best Buy claim that 1 February is the release date for Diablo 3. The picture below shows a midnight release launch for the game with all the details given as well, which means one of a number of things:

  • They just want to cause havoc
  • They have no idea and are using this to boost pre-order sales
  • They don’t care
  • They have some sort of inside information that nobody else does
In addition to this, also seem to report a Canadian chain listing 1 February and the UK store Gameplay listing 3 February. What in Tyrael’s name is going on here?

Micah “Bashiok” Whipple, Blizzard community manager, has almost dismissed the rumours that this will be the release date of the game.

“Retailers will not know a date until it's officially announced through a press release,” said his Tweet.

Along with that, he claims that they (Blizzard) can’t really keep each individual shop from making up a date. This seems to quash all the rumours abound that Diablo 3 has a release date yet because it just doesn’t.

Personally, I like to believe that there is some form of truth to these claims of a release date for the game. I’m struggling to wake up each morning in a world where Diablo 3 doesn’t yet have a release date and it’s making me sad. Rest assured, my ears will be placed firmly to the ground listening for any news.
