Upcoming Diablo Fixes

Blizzard has posted a long list of things about Diablo 3 and the way the game will be updated and tweaked on the forum to answer gamers' questions.

According to the forum post, there are a number of things planned in the future specifically regarding magic items, gems and blacksmithing. Blizzard also released some random info that gamers may find interesting:

  • On average players have created three characters each
  • 80 percent of characters are between levels one and 30
  • 1.9 percent of characters have unlocked Inferno difficulty
  • 54 percent of Hardcore players chose a female character
  • The majority of Hardcore deaths (35 percent) occur in Act I Normal
  • The most common level 60 build in the game is only used by 0.7 percent of level 60 characters of that class (not including Passive diversity)
  • The most used runes for each class at level 60 are Barbarian: Best Served Cold, Demon Hunter: Lingering Fog, Wizard: Mirror Skin, Monk: Peaceful Repose, Witch Doctor: Numbing Dart

Blizzard has said in the post that it has a new patch which should be coming next week that has been in development since the game’s launch which is mainly aimed at addressing service issues. The following patch, 1.0.3, will have some real game balance changes outside of the hotfixes the team has been doing.

The point is that if something is strong, the development team don’t want to just nerf it completely. The whole point of Daiblo 3 is to find super-strong builds and for players to be excited when they feel overpowered. The changes to Lingering Fog, Boon of Protection and Force Armor were needed because the skills were simply far more powerful than they should have been.

With regards to the next few changes, Blizzard will be lowering the gold cost of blacksmithing and crafting from levels one to 59 as well as looking to reduce the cost of combining gems so that it only requires two gems to upgrade instead of three up to a certain area. Along with that, Blizzard want to expose item levels as some players have said things are under powered. Players may feel more at ease when comparing an item level of 63 of a magical item to an item level of 60 for a Legendary item. Blizzard plan to buff Legendary items in a future patch as well which will only apply to new items found after the patch.

All of these changes are supposed to be coming up in patch 1.0.3.
