Morhaime’s State of Diablo

Diablo 3’s user base has been slowly dwindling as gamers may have noticed and many have said that the game doesn’t have the same lasting appeal as previous games in the franchise.

Mike Morhaime, CEO and founder of Blizzard, has issued a message on the forums to all gamers to discuss the state of Diablo 3. The message discusses the game’s launch, the problems that were encountered and where he, personally, feels the game has done well and done badly.

Aside from being a glass case of emotion, Morhaime also drops a few hints about the upcoming patches and improvements. He said the team will be working harder to give gamers the option of using abilities that were at some point considered ‘useless’ or ‘not good enough’ as other skills and abilities to allow more build diversity for characters.

“On the game balance front, this update will contain changes designed to further deliver on the team’s goal of promoting 'build diversity,' with buffs to many rarely used, underpowered class abilities. Another topic we’ve seen actively discussed is the fact that better, more distinct Legendary items are needed. We agree. Patch 1.0.4 will also include new and improved Legendary items that are more interesting, more powerful, and more epic in ways you probably won’t be expecting,” he says.

Morhaime also made some claims about the Real-Money Auction House being a tool for gamers to use as a way to protect them from black market trading sites, which is a fair statement. And he says that the RMAH will be improved more and more as time goes on.

Personally I can’t help but think that if the RMAH was put there with the sole purpose of protecting gamers, then that $1 fee that gets paid to Blizzard on each transaction is a bit off-colour.

Finally, he dropped a hint about the next major patch which would be 1.1 and will introduce PvP gameplay which will allow gamers to finally get what they paid for and take on each other on the battlefield. Additionally, there will be a new goal to strive for, for max-level, high-powered characters as an alternative to the tedious ‘item hunt’ situation.
