Diablo 3 Charity Movement

Blizzard has announced that players who exploited the recent Diablo III gold-multiplying bug introduced in patch 1.0.8 will have all their profits donated to charity.

Diablo 3 production director John Hight, has announced on the forum that Blizzard will be "donating all proceeds from auctions conducted by the suspended or banned players-including all of THEIR sale proceeds that we intercepted as well as our transaction fee-to Children's Miracle Network Hospitals."

The bug allowed players to duplicate gold from stacks of a million to 10 million via the game's real money auction house. This forced Blizzard to shut down the auction house temporarily on 7 May.

Apparently only a few players had the funds to take advantage of the glitch, with 415 of those players using it for personal gain. Players who were caught exploiting the bug have been either banned or had their account rolled back.

Blizzard Efforts to remove the duplicate gold and rebuild the in-game economy are underway with a global rollback simply ‘not necessary’.
