Telkom at rAge 2011 and DGL Champs

So it's almost that time of the year again where gamers all across South Africa flock to rAge at the Coca-Cola Dome in Johannesburg. This year's rAge is sponsored by Samsung and is taking place on the weekend of 30 September to 2 October. Here's what to expect:

Telkom Do Gaming at rAge 2011

Firstly, The Telkom Do Gaming League (DGL) 2011 Championships are taking place at the V.I.P. conference room downstairs underneath Entrance 3 at the Dome. For more details on the venue, read this blog entry.

The DGL Championships are the culmination of (cyber) blood, sweat and tears put in by gamers across South Africa throughout the year in the Online Do Gaming League. This year's Championships will see gamers competing in Starcraft 2, brought to you by Samsung, Call of Duty 4, FIFA 11 and Counter-Strike 1.6.

The Championships this year look to be hotly contested and it's going to be an excellent weekend of competitive gaming downstairs. The prize pool for the Do Gaming Championships has been announced. Telkom will be giving away over R100 000 worth of cash prizes across the four league games which are Counter-Strike 1.6, Call of Duty 4, FIFA 11 and Starcraft 2.

In addition to this, Samsung will be giving the winner at the Starcraft 2 Championships a top of the range gaming laptop worth about R20 000.

More details of today's show can be read in this story.

Secondly, Telkom's stand upstairs will be previewing exclusive Battlefield 3 playable code along with EA. Telkom Do Gaming has always supported the Battlefield franchise in its leagues and is delighted to be able to preview this hotly anticipated title at the Telkom stand.

Do Gaming will be supporting Battlefield 3 in the 2012 DGL season and more details of that will be announced shortly.

Other games at rAge

EA, Megarom, Ubisoft, Nintendo, Xbox, Sony and others will be exhibiting at rAge. EA will have playable code for Battlefield 3 (as above) and other games that will have playable code include Mass Effect 3, Assassin's Creed Revelations, Batman: Arkham City, FIFA 12, Dead Rising 2, Streetfighter vs. Tekken and Final Fantasy XIII-2. Dax Ginn from the development team of Batman: Arkham City will be hosting presentations on the NuMetro Entertainment stand on Friday and Saturday.

Nintendo will be showcasing the 3DS as well as the Nintendo Wii U Tablet, which releases in September, while Sony will be showcasing the PS Vita.

Indie scene

rAge is usually a great time to see what the Indie game development scene is up to and this year Learn 3D, a local tertiary institution specialising in 3D animation, will be presenting its Home Grown competition. Gamers coming to the show will get a chance to play and compete with contestants' games and get some prizes. More details at the Learn 3D website.

Frontosa will be at rAge 2011 to show off what processors can do and all of their overclocking skills. Approximately ten litres of Liquid Nitrogen will be used every day to cool components in overclocking presentations, says a press release.

The NAG LAN is an open lan that takes place every year and this year will be no exception.
