In the first upset of the third leg of the Call of Duty 4 (CoD4) Telkom Do Gaming Online League 2010, UbS|Enigma beat Area 52 last night on Crash, with a score of 17 – 7.
Area 52, however, had to play last night without their usual AK player Jayden 'PhaTNooB' Schröder, with substitute Lisha 'Dusa' De Vries playing in his place. On top of that, Max 'fAiTh' Mclaughlin's ongoing line challenges culminated in the stats showing a ping of 278.
Luca “RoBoHoBo” Tucconi, Area 52 captain, says that hopefully Mclaughlin's line will be fixed in about two weeks time.
“However, Enigma played well – a great opening game for them. I'm sure they will give the top teams in the Premier League a run,” Tucconi says.
Jose 'EN.S7RID3R' Da Silva, Enigma captain, says his team was there to win.
“It's unfortunate that we couldn't play against the whole Area 52 team and played against their subs, but I believe that even against the full team we still would have beaten them. Honestly I think we could have pushed through,” he says.
Heading into the game, Area 52 won the knife round and chose to defend first.
“Their A attack was very good and they used middle a lot, which was hard for us due to Mclaughlin's line challenges,” Tucconi says. “Despite that, Mclaughlin's awesome clutching skills were still a highlight.”
Area 52 did attempt to postpone the game for later in the evening so that Tucconi could fetch Mclaughlin to play on his line, but Enigma said that they had already scheduled the match and so they had to play at the agreed time.
By half-time the score was a draw at 6 – 6, but after the sides switched it appears that Enigma really took over the game, with Area 52 only getting one more round in while Enigma got the rest.
“Our defence was strong. We stratted a lot for this game; on Saturday we stratted to about three in the morning. We got ourselves ready for the game,” says Da Silva. “We're going all the way. Our next game is against Pantheon and we'll be stratting the whole week.”
Da Silva congratulated his team member Garrett 'ToyBoy' Ball for showing a lot of initiative in the game, while Lucconi mentions that Gareth 'Smellz' Langhein from Enigma seemed to have a great game.
Belinda 'FluffyCloud' Jonker, co-owner of UbS, says she is delighted with the win.
Enigma appears to be showing a strong competitive spirit and it will be interesting to see how the team goes up against other Premier teams. In the meanwhile, many have been keeping their eyes on Area 52 as a winner for this leg. Hopefully, Area 52 can sort out its line-up challenges quickly as they need to face Pantheon strong and ready by week four.
