The first two weeks of the Call of Duty 4 (CoD4) Telkom Do Gaming League have gone by swiftly and contained many eye catching and interesting circumstances. Fourth Division provides some of its own.
There are two teams in particular who are shaking things up in Fourth Division, entertaining many different opinions and ideas.
Ellipses…shelooked18
Shelooked18 was created by Kevin “Kev” Woodland.
This team’s line up includes some very experienced players who have themselves competed in the highest division of the CoD4 Telkom Do Gaming League, the Premier League.
Woodland says that they started the team to play their way to the CoD4 Telkom Do Gaming League finals.
He says that even though they are a strong team, they are expecting some tough times ahead with their line up as Trevor “qu1k_sh0t” Henry and Andrew 'xiR' Harper are in Qoob. This will leave them with an incomplete line up where they will have to make do with four players.
Both Henry and Francois “Lucidity” van Wyk are also in competitive Battlefield: Bad Company 2 teams, which implies that they might have to drop the Shelooked18 team at the CoD4 Telkom Do Gaming League finals.
When asked whether these line up problems are a concern for the team, Woodland says no.
“I spoke with the guys before making the team and told them that this team isn't really serious. It is more about playing for lulz and making our way to the finals. Kind of like Euro-trip, just the online nerd version,” he says.
Ultimately the team will be aiming to make it as high up the ladder as they can before the CoD4 Telkom Do Gaming League finals.
=BFB=cHunKy
Powered by experience on the competitive CoD4 scene, this team seems to be a big factor in Fourth Division this leg.
The team is proof that Premier League players are indeed highly skilled and have earned every achievement they have made, over and over again.
The line-up boasts players such as Rynier G “Cranky” Schoeman, Jonathan “Lambda” Glenday, Stephen “SoloB” Lockhart and Grant “Hypocr1sy” Macwilliam.
Sadly, this team will not be competing in the CoD4 Telkom Do Gaming League until the finals. Reiche, captain and manager of the team, says that it was a spur of the moment thing and that they entered just before the registrations closed.
“Well, to be perfectly honest, we are entering the league just for fun. You know, something to do during the extended break from school and university due to the World Cup. As of now, we don't really have any plans of competing in the next leg,” says Michael “Pie” Reiche.
Reiche also explains that he does feel it a big possibility for them to top their group.
“I do feel we could top our group by the end of the leg. I don't say that out of arrogance, but just by looking at the experience of the players in our team. It's not hard to see there is a great chance of us topping the group.
“Two of our members are from =BFB= laRd, and a few more have been in =BFB= muPtarDs, so we really do have the experience. But with respect for the other teams, it's not really an issue of skill, but rather the other teams’ commitment and possible maturity, with most players swapping from clan to clan on a regular basis - which are not ideal circumstances for the development of a decent team,” he says.
All the players in this team also play Battlefield: Bad Company 2 competitively. Reiche says that the purpose of =BFB=cHunKy was not to impose on any other games but was the complete opposite.
Great Expectations
Premier League players have now leveled themselves with the lowest division which can and should be seen as a gesture of goodwill. It depicts some humility in our top players and erases most claims of bias in the competitive CoD4 scene.
Naturally and fairly these teams are expected to perform outstandingly.
Another Team Disqualified
Disappointingly yet another team has been disqualified from this division in leg 2.
A team from the former Fatality clan used a player who had been banned by the default third-party monitoring tool PunkBuster.
This team was accordingly disqualified from the CoD4 Telkom Do Gaming League as the rules clearly state:
Players who are banned by the Default Service Provider and/or a third-party monitoring tool (such as PunkBuster/VAC2) are not permitted to play in the Do Gaming League. You may appeal this ban by contacting the League Admin. Teams who field banned players in their team lineup (without any exception being granted) will be disqualified instantly.
In this leg, Carnage had also been suspended after similar circumstances than the Fatality suspension.
Carnage was suspended after knowingly including the banned player Neil “cHip” Cross in a league match. This after Do Gaming had sent the team a notification of his ban and presenting the team an opportunity to remove this player and continue in the league without him.
