DGL 2011 Champs Prize Breakdown

As has been previously announced, Telkom Do Gaming is giving away a prize pool of R160,000 in cash to the winning teams and gamers partaking in the Telkom Do Gaming League (DGL) 2011 LAN Championships at rAge this year, with the Starcraft 2 DGL 2011 Championships also brought to you by Samsung. This year the prize pool will be segmented to increase the number of gamers receiving cash.

To summarise, cash prizes will now not just be given to the top three teams or players in the respective Championship (Call of Duty 4, Starcraft 2, FIFA 11, Counter-Strike 1.6) as in previous years, but now to the top eight.

Furthermore, each team or gamer in the top eight will receive a minimum amount of cash which is expanded to more than double for Telkom Do Broadband or TelkomInternet account holders, to reward Telkom customers for their loyalty.

When it comes to team games such as Call of Duty 4 and Counter-Strike 1.6, the total cash prize awarded to a team goes up in value depending on how many team members are Telkom Do Broadband or TelkomInternet account holders. To clarify, here's an example:

The first-placing Call of Duty 4 team with one or less Telkom account holders takes home the minimum amount of R14 000. But if the team has three account holders the prize is expanded by 60 percent to R22 400. If the entire team of five each have an account the prize pool expands by 150 percent to amount to R35 000. This is Telkom's way of saying thank you to its customers for their loyal support.

The Telkom DGL 2011 Championships are going to be a massive affair with 32 Call of Duty 4 teams, 16 Counter-Strike teams, 64 FIFA 11 players and 16 of the best StarCraft 2 players in the country who will all decide who the top gamers for 2011 are.

By expanding the amount of gamers receiving cash prizes together with a huge prize pool, Telkom's commitment to gaming in South Africa is clear. In the last four years since the Telkom Do Gaming Championships have been running, Telkom has given over R800 000 value in cash/prizes to gamers.

The Telkom DGL 2011 Championships are taking place at rAge 2011 at the Coca-Cola Dome in Northgate, Johannesburg from 30 September to 2 October.
