Huge CoD4 DGL 2012 Championship

Since its inception, one of the most popular games in the Telkom Do Gaming League (DGL) has been Call of Duty 4 (CoD4), with the prizes for competing teams at the CoD4 DGL Championships getting bigger every year. This year, the winning team will take home R18,000 and five Alienware X51 Desktops, with the CoD4 DGL 2012 Championship sponsored by Telkom and Dell Alienware.

This means that the first place team takes home prizes worth R68,000. Overall, the CoD4 Championship sees prizes worth R90,000 at stake, with Telkom sponsoring prizes from first place to eighth. Here's how the total prize break-down looks:

1st – R18,000 (plus the five Alienware X51 desktops sponsored by Alienware)
    2nd – R8800
    3rd – R4000
    4th – R2800
    5th – R1600
    6th – R1600
    7th – R1600
    8th – R1600

BFB Lard DGL 2011 Champions BFB Lard are the DGL 2011 Champions and will be defending their title this year.

It's really been a year of both twists and turns while mainstayers continued to dominate, mainly in the form of Bravado who were undefeated in their leg wins – taking the first, second and third legs of the year.

While ASF continued to play a significant rival to Bravado, line-up challenges with the team eventually saw things sadly disband with no ASF CoD4 team attending the CoD4 DGL 2012 Championship.

However, team such as xTc, BFB RegiMent and HpX really rose through the ranks to become top contenders for this year, while regulars such as iM, DI and hacKME continue to make a showing. Meanwhile, a number of first division teams are also being whispered about in the corridors of CoD4, such as .UbS|pRey and BaWs, to name a few.

Things also change in a LAN environment. Last year Bravado were once again pinned to be the favourites but the 2011 Championship title was awarded to BFB laRd in a showdown between them and Bravado. Due to a late registration, laRd didn't play in the Premier League this year, building themselves up from the lower divisions to enter the Champions Cup for the last leg. But Bravado took them out in the Champions Cup quarter-final, leaving the DGL 2011 Champions with
some work to do in preparation for this year's big event.

Overall, the Telkom DGL 2012 Championships have a prize pool worth a half-million rand, the largest prize pool in the history of the DGL, with games including Battlefield 3, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Starcraft 2, Gran Turismo 5 and FIFA 12 on both Xbox 360 and PS3, in addition to Call of Duty 4.

Gamers who blog about the DGL at the Do Gaming community blog will also stand the chance of winning one in three Alienware X51 PC's.

The DGL 2012 Championships will be taking place at rAge 2012 at the Coca-Cola Dome in Northgate, Johannesburg.
