Battlefield Warfare

Both modern war first-person shooters (FPS) have now been revealed and there will probably be a huge debate about which one will be the bigger success.

Battlefield 3 was announced some time ago and there are a number of trailers for the game which have all received nothing but critical acclaim thus far.

Modern Warfare 3’s reveal trailer was also recently shown off and it also looks incredibly epic – but which one will you be playing?

Let’s kick off this discussion by stating some facts about each of the games.

Battlefield 3:

  • Battlefield 3 will probably have dedicated servers, given EA’s previous track record of Battlefield games.
  • Battlefield 3 has a PC version that DICE has said IS its main focus in developing the game.
  • The game will also feature huge 64-player multiplayer battles in the style that Battlefield gamers are accustomed to.

Modern Warfare 3:

  • Has enjoyed some very good reviews for the last three games in the series.
  • Made by completely new development teams, so could be something fresh.
  • Might suffer the same server problems as Call of Duty: Black Ops.
  • The developers are catering for consoles, which means the PC version might not be all that it could be.

Modern Warfare 3 is set to release 8 November while Battlefield 3 is suspected to have a release of 2 November, so most gamers will probably find themselves choosing one or the other.

To be honest, Modern Warfare has always had the best of the single-player campaigns but how can we trust the same will happen when a new team is developing the game this time? Well to put it bluntly, we can't be sure so gamers will need to take a gamble on buying the game based purely on the reputation of the actual Call of Duty brand name.

Gamers can expect similar things from DICE as they always have and the multiplayer for Battlefield 3 will surely take off, just as the rest of the Battlefield series always has.

In terms of competitive gameplay, the die-hard Call of Duty 4 fans will probably stick to their guns (see what I did there?) in what they know best and probably won’t deviate from their standard. The Battlefield 3 players will probably stick to their chosen brand as well, so there will always be that divide between the two sectors.

However, it’s possible that either one of these games may fail completely. But that chance is very small as both of the trailers for the respective games look absolutely stunning.
