Activision and Infinity Ward have launched the Modern Warfare 3 Content Season, a nine-month period where Call of Duty Elite members will receive regular downloadable content (DLC) for the game.
The launch begins with two new multiplayer maps – Liberation and Piazza. Call of Duty Elite members on Xbox LIVE will get it first on 24 January, launching the start of the nine-month season, with additional platforms to receive the content at 'a later time' (according to a press release).
Activision says that 20 'content drops' will occur from January to September. During the first three months of the year, Activision will release five different content drops.
The DLC will include new multiplayer maps, Special Ops Mission, new game modes and more. Call of Duty Elite premium subscribers get it first but each DLC pack will be made available for purchase for normal Modern Warfare 3 gamers at a later stage.
The two new multiplayer maps (which can also be played in Modern Warfare 3's survival mode) constitutes two of the content drops.
"Liberation is a vast, militarised landscape, ripe for long-range sniper and LMG fire, with mounted turrets on either end that lend power to anyone brave enough to expose themselves in exchange for deadly firepower. Piazza is the idyllic Italian getaway that is anything but, where tight corners and branching pathways pose great risk at every turn. Close-range combat dominates in Piazza, where attacks from behind, above and below are an ever-constant threat," says a press release.
Mid-February is when the next Content Drop will take place.
It's going to be interesting to see if the price Call of Duty Elite premium members are paying will be worth it, as compared to just purchasing the DLC separately.
