Tonight: MW3 is Decided

It's a pinnacle point in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (MW3) DGL 2012, brought to you by Dell Alienware, Megarom and Monster Energy, as the Final match in the Champions Cup for the first leg fires off between Vitriolic and impi tonight.

The Novice and Newcomer Cups have their winners, but we'll get to that later.

It's not just about who takes this leg but about the precedent set for the rest of the year. Looking at how the teams have performed this leg, Bravado, Vitriolic, impi and LOA appear to be the strongest. We can expect an exciting Premier league, especially as the other Premier teams have really shown their mettle as well.

Brandon 'broKeN_' De Beer, vice-captain for impi, says his team has been feeling well the last few days and have been practising a lot.

“We’ve played a few friendlies with Vitriolic before and we think we have a great chance of getting on top of things tonight,” he says.

Bjorn 'n008' Fish, captain of Vitriolic, has an equally confident team, although the pressure is on him to perform as the captain.

“Impi plays well together. Their team is well structured and they’re a good all-round team,” he says.

De Beer says he has his eyes on the Vitriolic SMG’s.

“Vitriolic isn’t an easy team to predict. Their players know where to be and they’re altogether very strong,” he says.

The race to the top (see the Cup tree here) saw Vitriolic face Bravado in the semi-final, a game that Fish says was their most challenging match of the leg. They lost that game as Bravado took two maps (13 – 3 and 13 – 9 respectively) but Vitriolic was awarded the win in the end due to a forfeit, as Bravado had ‘zombz’ play, who wasn’t listed in the team as part of the leg 1 line-up.

That was an honest mistake from Bravado’s end, says Sean ‘r0adrunner’ Grobler.

“We actually all forgot that zombz had not been added to [the] lineup on the DGL page as he has been in bvd for a few weeks now.

“We played the first map with takbok and won 13 – 1. On the second map takbok’s line dropped at 7 – 4 (I think) and thus zombz, our sub, started playing. We totally forgot that he has not been added yet and it was definitely not intentional; we then proceeded to winning that map,” he says.

On the other end, impi faced [xTc]MW3 in the semi-final and enjoyed a 2 – 1 win. But the most challenging game of the leg for impi, according to De Beer, was their round 2 match against |LOA|SCG that had to go into double overtime.

“LOA are extremely strong. They deserve to be in Premier and will be a strong contender. So long as they continue to work hard I expect to see them in the top logs,” he says.

Both teams have been doing well in terms of their communication, a key factor that’s got them this far. But who will buckle under the pressure tonight? We’ll have to see.

The game fires off at 8pm and there will be shoutcasting and possibly a stream. Keep your eye on this thread for details.
