Do Gaming and Megarom Partner for CoD: Modern Warfare 3 2012 League

Telkom Do Gaming is happy to announce that it is planning a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (MW3) PC league for the Do Gaming League (DGL) 2012 season. Furthermore, Megarom has partnered with Do Gaming for the title and will be providing R50 000 in prize money.

Jason Borea, Megarom Marketing Director, says the community is quintessential to Megarom and that the Call of Duty franchise is brilliant in the way it appeals to both the competitive and casual gaming community.

"The competitive nature of the Call of Duty franchise is what has made Call of Duty’s multiplayer experience so exciting. We've always been involved in supporting the local gaming scene and what we found appealing about the DGL is the opportunity for gamers to play through the year online, with the league culminating in a LAN Championship where gamers will stand the chance to win their share of R50 000,” he says.

It's only right that a substantial prize be given to gamers after putting in so much hard work during the year, Borea adds.

"The DGL is a dependable and exciting competition on the South African gaming calendar and Call of Duty gamers can now look forward to a highly competitive 2012 season with tremendous prizes," he says.

Many of the Megarom team are gamers themselves, with Borea saying that they have about 2000 hours of combined Call of Duty: Black Ops Multiplayer time behind them.

As with all Do Gaming Leagues, MW3 is scheduled to run over multiple legs. The first leg will be used for seeding and gamers will battle it out in the following legs for rankings, with the top teams from the online league being invited to play at the League Championships held on LAN. It is likely teams will be structured in a five player format with a maximum of three reserves allowed.

Borea says that sales of Modern Warfare 3 (pre-orders) have exceeded Call of Duty: Black Ops (last year's Call of Duty title) locally. With the inclusion of dedicated server software and LAN support on the PC version of the game, there's a lot of confidence that the local Call of Duty community are going to grow and enjoy the title.

"The Call of Duty formula has been hugely successful and this year Activision and the developers have built on that formula with extra features and an enhanced engine. From a single-player perspective, Modern Warfare 3 will continue what has been a brilliant story in the Modern Warfare franchise," he says.

The game is picking up interest across sectors too with Jeep branding two of its vehicles with MW3 artwork. The vehicles will be seen at various store launches next week. Jeep are official Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 global partners.

Sergeant John "Soap" MacTavishand Nikolai are back in Modern Warfare 3 and both of them are on the run after killing the rogue U.S. Army Lieutenant, General Shepard. Vladamir Makarov, the antagonist from Modern Warfare 2, is also back and setting his eyes on mass terrorism of the Western world.

The story follows straight on from Modern Warfare 2 after the Russian Federation has been invading the U.S. and now Europe is under threat. In addition to the above characters there will also be some new playable characters such as Derek "Frost" Westbrook and Sandman, Marcus Burns and Yuri. Wallcroft returns to the narrative, originally from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

Modern Warfare 3 will also bring back the three popular gameplay modes from previous titles: Campaign, Co-operative (called Spec Ops) and of course multiplayer.

“The amazing thing about Call of Duty is that it appeals to all types of gamers and that all can enjoy and take part in its adrenalin pumping frenetic gameplay. Megarom is very excited about this year's iteration," Borea says.
