Ghosts Sales Reach 1 Billion

Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Ghosts generated $1 billion in worldwide revenue on launch day.

That's not to say the latest Call of Duty managed to shatter GTA V's record, which took three days to reach $1 billion. Activision made it clear that it "sold more than $1 billion of Call of Duty: Ghosts into retail stores worldwide as of day one," meaning the figure is made up of units sold to retailer, not necessarily to consumers.

"Ghosts is an amazing game which ushers in the next generation of Call of Duty,” says CEO Eric Hirshberg.

“This is the must have launch title for the next generation of consoles, and we expect Call of Duty: Ghosts to be the most successful launch title for the Xbox One and PS4 by a wide margin. In fact, according to GameStop, Call of Duty: Ghosts is their most pre-reserved next gen title.”

Interestingly Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 reached the $1 billion milestone after 15 days of sale.

The developer has also revealed that Call of Duty: Ghosts has moved to the top spot on Xbox Live as the most-played game this week, trumping Battlefield 4.

Looking ahead to the game's release at launch for the Xbox One and PS4, Hirshberg reiterated the potential of the latest title in a long and illustrious franchise.
