eN Take #CODeSports Cup Final

Energy eSports defeated premier rivals Bravado Gaming to claim their first title of the 2014 campaign in the Ghosts #CODeSports Insta-Clash Cup final.

eN.Blaze and bvd COD:Ghosts met on Sunday, 6 April in a heated back-and-fourth encounter that ended 3-2 in favour of the Energy outfit.

The cup win marks Blaze’s second consecutive win over their rivals in the space of two weeks, having cemented their place as joint-winners of the 2014 Telkom Do Gaming League Ghosts PC Summer Leg Premier Division with a remarkable derby win in the closing match week of competition.

The two teams met on Sunday, 23 March with Bravado primed to cement their place as Summer Leg winners but slipped up to a driven Energy line-up that managed back-to-back wins, 13-5 and 13-11 on Warhawk and Octane respectively.

“The team feels amazing about the win," says Vice-Captain Brandon ‘brokeN_’ De Beer.

“We endured a difficult route to the final, besting two amazing teams opposed to Bravado who played smaller outfits but personally, I think most of the community would agree that normal play is more competitive while #CODeSports feels a lot more proned to free-for-all (FFA) play.”

Both teams are scheduled to compete at next weekend’s CANSA Liberty LAN Easter Tournament at Emperors Palace.

“Liberty is of course one of the most amazing competitive LANs in South Africa, but I don’t think the cup win has done anything more than boost our confidence,” De Beer added.

“We certainly won’t take any team lightly everyone has a chance on LAN.”

The tournament is open to up to 16 teams and operates on a first come first serve basis. The first 16 teams to register for the event and pay their entrance fee online will be accepted.

Gaming for Cancer is the organisation’s seventh national project with other well-known CANSA projects including Movember and the CANSA Shavathon.

The goal of Gaming for Cancer is to use gaming to raise awareness about cancer nationally by partnering with LANs and giving gamers the chance to participate in supporting the fight against a disease which will affect one in four South Africans through diagnosis of friends, family or self. Globally Cancer kills more people than TB, AIDS and Malaria combined.
