Ryan ‘Avokodo’ Quevauvilliers from miNt Gaming was able to take first place in the Go Time Tournament last night. Quevauvilliers, the Terran player was able to edge out Travis ‘Shase’ Weedon in a 3-0 victory in the best of five final.
Weedon, from Bravado Gaming, went into this tournament playing the race Zerg, which is known as his weakest race. This first retail tournament saw the likes of Flipi ‘alcardu’ Portman from Ventus Gaming getting knocked out in the first round by a player with the nickname ‘Smiley’. ‘Smiley’ was then able to best his next opponent too and ended up in third/fourth place with Richard ‘ANGRYAFRICAN’ West also from Ventus Gaming.
Quevauvilliers says that the reason he won is because Weedon went Zerg. “Terran (his race) versus Zerg is my best matchup so I knew I had it won when I went up against him.”
The final was played best of five and Quevauvilliers was able to win on the three maps chosen, twice on Metalopolis and once on Steppes of War, both of which were Weedon’s choices.
“He tried a lot of rush strategies and I was able to just beat them off and then finish up. But I think Zerg is his (Weedon’s) worst race. I think he played Random last tournament and Zerg this tournament to hide his strategies for the StarCraft II Exhibition,” Quevauvilliers says.
Quevauvilliers was invited to the StarCraft II Exhibition to be held at the end of the month, but said he wouldn’t be able to make it. When asked about his predictions for the StarCraft II Exhibition, Quevauvilliers was quite unsure.
“I think top three is a roll of the dice, but at the same time I think that Barry ‘Dreamer’ West will take it and his brother will take second. Weedon will take third I think, but if he plays Terran he could take second. I’m pretty sure but it’s hard to predict.”
