It seems that the PlayStation (PS) Move is quite accurate, so accurate in fact that is has impressed surgeons.
In an interview with VideoGamer, Richard Marks, Sony’s senior researcher says that surgeons have likened it to their laparoscopic surgery simulators. These are $100,000 simulators that they say feels very similar to the PS Move.
Marks adds that the PS Move is not just for casual gamers and will be breaching a brand new market for both casual and hardcore gamers wanting to use motion control.
“The focus is across the whole spectrum of PlayStation owners so it adds a very good casual control to our system, but also because it has so much fidelity and precision it can do a lot of core experience as well. It’s really intended not to just be for one audience.”
Marks also says that the PS Move would be able to go beyond gaming in certain circumstances after switching to a demo with a model of a head.
“Even for creating user generated content. You can start with something like a head, you can reach into a head, grab it, squeeze (the control) tighter and make the chin more pointy. Extend the nose out, grab the ears; you can even create monsters in this way.”
The PlayStation Move is scheduled to release in Europe on 15 September and should be hitting South African shores shortly after. Read the full interview with Richard Marks here.
