Co-op Games for Festive Fun

People are always looking for fun co-op games to play when they have friends over and here is a short list of some great co-op games.

Civilisation V

Civilisation V is a strategy game where you will strive to be rulers of the world. This is done by establishing and leading a civilization from the dawn of man into the space age, waging war, conducting diplomacy, discovering new technologies, going head-to-head with some of history’s greatest leaders and building the most powerful empire the world has ever known. There are some great expansion packs that bring you even more content that adds to the storyline. You can buy Civilisation V on Steam to be played on your PC.

Supreme Commander 2

You can play Supreme Commander 2 in multiplayer or skirmish mode. In both modes, players start out with an Armoured Command Unit (ACU) which is a large, powerful, construction-capable unit, as their avatar on the battlefield. They build mass extractors and power generators which produce mass and energy, along with research facilities, which produce research points faster. This game is a must for any real-time strategy (RTS) players that want to have fun with their friends. You can get the game via Steam for your PC and there has also been a version released for Mac OS X.

Borderlands 1 and 2

Borderlands is an action role-playing, first person shooter (FPS) game in which players choose one of four characters, each with a unique special skill and with proficiencies with certain weapons. From then on, players take on missions assigned through non-player characters or from bounty boards, each typically rewarding the player with experience points, money, and sometimes a reward item. The game is similar in style to many games in its genre, but is unique in its own special way. In a game like this it is always easier to play in a group.

Borderlands

Borderlands 2 is the sequel to Borderlands and features the same style of gameplay. Players choose between different weapon types such as shotguns, snipers, assault rifles, etc. Each weapon has a unique manufacturer, and different company's weapons have different effects. A player also has access to an "Action Skill." This Skill is unique for each class, and the character's skill trees will influence the way your action skill works. Once again it is easier to play in groups of people that you trust.

Blur

Blur is a great racing game to play with friends. It is not just your typical racing game though as you collect power-ups that can either help you or hurt the people you are racing against. It is not the kind of game that lasts long when you are playing the single player but it never gets boring playing with friends via split-screen or LAN.

Quake III Arena

Quake III Arena (Q3A) was made with the multiplayer as the main focus. The game's story is brief - 'the greatest warriors of all time fight for the amusement of a race called the Vadrigar in the Arena Eternal. In the single player the game still simulates the multiplayer experience with computer controlled players known as bots. There are many different weapons that players can pick up that make the game unpredictable and exciting, making it a game that will almost always be around at LAN’s.

Q3A comes with several gameplay modes; Free for All (FFA), a classic deathmatch, where each player competes against the rest for the highest score, Team Deathmatch (TDM), where usually two teams of four compete for the highest team frag total, Tournament (1v1), a deathmatch between two players, usually ending after a set time and Capture the Flag, which is played on symmetrical maps where teams have to recover the enemy flag from the opponents' base while retaining their own.
