What the Nintendo Wii U Console System Will Cost You

With 30 days to go before Nintendo’s latest console, the Wii U, is released, the console’s pricing information is out.

Two launch packs are confirmed: the Wii U Basic Pack and the Wii U Premium Pack. And the Wii U has the strongest line-up of launch titles in Nintendo’s history, according to the company.

All the prices given here are the recommended retail price. But retailers can choose their own prices, so these launch packs may be more expensive, depending on where you buy them!

The Wii U Basic Pack, consisting of a Wii U console with 8GB internal storage and the GamePad Controller, both in white, will cost you – at least – R3,999.

Wii U The Wii U Basic Set comes with one GamePad controller - you'll need to purchase additional controllers.

The Premium Pack contains a black Wii U console – with 32GB internal storage and the GamePad controller, plus Nintendo Land, which should retail for R4,599.

Wii U The Wii U Premium Pack also only has one GamePad controller - but comes with a Wii U launch title.

For survival horror fans, the Wii U exclusive launch title, ZombiU has its own ZombiU Wii U Premium Pack, featuring a black Wii U console, plus both a GamePad and a Pro Controller. It will cost around R4,999.

Wii U The Mother of all Wii U Packs - the ZombiU Premium Pack comes with both Wii U Controllers - the GamePad and Pro Controller - and the ZombiU title.

All Wii U peripherals will be available too, in case you need extra controllers or accessories. And for those of you who already own a Wii, there’s no need to rush out to replace your peripherals: the Wii Remote Plus Controller and the Nunchuk are both compatible with the new console. If you don’t own these controllers, Nintendo is offering a Wii Remote Plus Additional Set for around R899.

Wii U The Wii Remote Plus Accessory Set - for those who don't have the original Wii controllers.

So far, the only titles that have recommended retail prices are Super Mario Bros. U (about R599) and Nintendo Land (about R499). Other launch titles have been announced, but no prices as yet:

Call of Duty: Black Ops II
    Darksiders 2
    Assassin’s Creed III
    LEGO City: Undercover
    Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed

With a month to go before the Wii U console launches, it may be time to crack open the piggy bank.
