UDK Sees Successful Uptake

Since the release of Unreal Development Kit (UDK) to the public on November 5, Epic Games says that the tool has exceeded 50,000 users globally.

UDK is the award-winning Unreal Engine 3 toolset available to the public. This means that anyone can now download the engine and create games with it. It can be downloaded here at Telkom Do Gaming using local bandwidth.

Epic Games says UDK is available to anyone interested in using 3D game engine technology, from game developers to students, hobbyists to researchers, and creators of architectural walkthroughs to digital filmmakers.

Mark Rein, Epic Games vice president, says the company is very excited about the response UDK has received.

"We are very excited to see the uptake of UDK cross over the 50,000 mark in only one week, and we're looking forward to seeing amazing games and applications come out of it. We're also thrilled to finally be able to offer UDK free for schools and students so they can work with the same awesome Unreal Engine 3 tools used by many of the top game developers and publishers around the world,” he says.

An example of a game made using UDK is Prometheus. Check out Stephen White's look at this game here, and download it here at Do Gaming. The game is a standalone title so it does not require Unreal Tournament 3 to play.

Check out a trailer of UDK here.
