Sports Champions on Motion Control

Gamers will be able to experience Sony’s own version of Wii Sports. The game, entitled Sports Champions, will feature dozens of casual sports games such as Table Tennis, Gladiator, Frisbee, Golf and Archery.

Kotaku, had a chance to play both Gladiator and Table Tennis at Game Developers Conference (GDC).

Gladiator

Gladiator uses both Move controllers, one in each hand. The right controller lets players control the weapon and the left hand controls the player’s shield. Gamers will need to turn their body and pull the right hand back to better block with their left hand. The Move is able to pick up whether gamers twist their hands to turn the shield and even detect the power on the swings.

Gamers will battle it out in a ring and be able to push other contestants out of the ring. Should players be pushed near the end, they will need to outstretch their arms and flail them about in order to avoid falling out of the ring. Gamers can also quickly move their hand up in the air and then down to trigger a jumping attack as well as putting their hands on their hips to taunt the opponent, according to Kotaku.

Table Tennis

Gamers will use a single controller for this game and the camera will be able to track the body location to pick up how far players are from the table and how they are turned towards the table.

Kotaku says the Eye will easily pick up the way gamers hold the paddle in game and let them execute precise shots like slices and spins and even lobs.
