Thanks to this past holiday season, the PlayStation 3 has finally surpassed the Xbox 360’s numbers worldwide.
According to GamesIndustry.biz, the holiday season gave PlayStation 3 a boost to 77 million units sold in comparison to the Xbox’s 76 million units, even though the PlayStation 3 launched a year later than the Xbox 360.
The same report states that since there is such a huge rise in technological advances recently, Wii U's sales are expected to escalate well in the next few years. The International Data Corporation (IDC) who revealed the numbers, believes that Nintendo will still find an audience and estimate 50 million units sold by the end of 2016 despite the release of Sony and Microsoft bringing in their new consoles.
Quite interesting to note that the PlayStation 3 comes with a Blu-Ray player and the Xbox 360 does not. Added to the fact that PlayStation 3 has had more and possibly better exclusive titles over the last year or two, it seems that perhaps the world is finally coming to its senses. Let’s not forget that when the Xbox 360 was launched, the console kept getting a Red Ring of Death (RROD) which took Microsoft quite some time to fix.
