Both Sony’s PlayStation Arc and Microsoft’s Project Natal motion controllers are both scheduled to release later this year. Nintendo currently owns the motion control genre right now but both Sony and Microsoft are looking to change that.
Gamers in the know will be able to take a look at both products and see that Project Natal is obviously winning the popularity race at the moment, as little advertising has been done for the Arc and it seems that Natal has been the talk of next generation motion controlling.
According to Industry Gamers, Rob Dyer, SCEA Senior Vice President, has described all the Microsoft push as a “whole PR barrage”.
“From Sony’s perspective, rather than go out and do a whole PR barrage to give everybody the ‘happy, happy, joy, joy’ news, we’re going to show up and have a line-up of products to show people rather than having a lot of great statements to say, ‘This is what’s going to happen,’” he says.
He was also reported to have said that there is no trouble in gaining third-party support for Arc. It is the same code base that gamers currently use for the PS3 in order to get a motion controller game out, which can’t be done with Natal.
Both Project Natal and the PlayStation Arc will be available later this year and both companies are expected to make huge presentations at this years E3 expo at the Los Angeles Convention Centre in the USA in June.
