Blizzard has announced that the next BlizzCon will only be in 2013 and in its stead will be the 2012 Battle.net World Championship.
Blizzard usually hosts the annual BlizzCon event for fans and uses it to launch and announce interesting and unexpected details about its three major franchises, StarCraft, WarCraft and Diablo. This year however, Blizzard decided to skip a year for BlizzCon and introduce the 2012 Battle.net World Championships.
According to a press release, the Battle.net World Championships is a major global eSports event that will feature some of the best pro-gaming competition in the world. The 2012 Championship will host StarCraft 2 and World of Warcraft Arena tournaments.
“We’re excited to be showcasing Blizzard eSports on a truly global stage this year. We're also heavily focused on getting Diablo III, Mists of Pandaria, and Heart of the Swarm into players’ hands as soon as possible. In light of our jam-packed schedule, we’ve decided to hold the next BlizzCon in 2013,” says the release.
Blizzard will be releasing more details about the Championship as well as BlizzCon 2013 with dates and locations in the upcoming months.
