It has been a number of years since Microsoft last launched a popular flight simulator game and the next iteration will be free to play with pieces of downloadable content (DLC) available at regular intervals.
The last flight simulator that Microsoft launched was Flight Simulator X. That was originally released in 2006 with the added “Gold” version releasing two years later with the add-on packs and additional content. But gamers will be delighted to know that the new MS Flight will be using a free-to-play model with offerings of DLC at an additional cost.
MS Flight is in the closed beta stages right now and Microsoft will have the full version of the game ready at the end of February this year. Gamers will be able to fly around the Hawaiian islands free of charge at the moment with a Hawaiian Adventure Pack available for purchase.
According to a ShackNews report, players can hop into the Maule M-7-260C and the North American P-51 Mustang fighter plane as soon as they have signed into the game with their Windows Live account.
Joshua Howard, MS Flight executive producer, says that the numbers of applicants for the beta into the game was far more than they ever planned for and the feedback received by beta testers was amazing.
I did find it funny that the ESRB rating for MS flight was for Everyone but cited “crude humour” and “mild violence”… Uh oh… All I’m hoping is that the new Boeing is in the game, it’s always great to make it do flips and stall it whilst hurtling towards the ground.
