Graveyard Virus Affecting Borderlands 2

Borderlands 2 players trying to join online games have found themselves under threat from a very real virus.

According to CVG, the Graveyard Virus attacks your save files, replacing yours with an infected file. It renders your characters useless: if they die in the game, they won’t respawn.

The virus apparently originates from a hack that forces all players to use ‘hardcore’ mode – a mode that prevents characters from respawning once they have died.

Borderlands 2 The Graveyard Virus plunges you into Hardcore Mode - whether you like it or not.

Chris Faylor, Gearbox’s community manager suggested that Xbox 360 players concerned with this virus ‘should consider playing online with trusted individuals in non-public sessions’. The Graveyard Virus isn’t affecting PS3 or PC gamers.

On the Borderlands 2 forum, Faylor advises players:

“We also advise that before ceasing play, users always select ‘Save and Quit’ within the pause menu while their character is alive. If after the death of their characters players find themselves at the main menu of Borderlands 2 instead of respawning in-game, be sure to immediately select ‘Continue’ to resume playing as that character.”

A patch is on its way and will be released as soon as possible. Gearbox has requested any players experiencing problems to report this issue, in as much detail as you can to spotted@gearboxsoftware.com.
