As reported at NineMSN, this last week a man died in a Taiwanese Internet cafe (New Taipei) while playing League of Legends. No one noticed for nine hours.
The man, Chen Jung-yu (23) apparently died of cardiac arrest but had bought a 23-hour gaming pass at the cafe. He was found dead by a waitress who had come to tell him after the 23 hours that his pass had expired. He had been sitting rigidly in his chair with his hands stretched out. Everyone assumed he had played the game for 23 straight hours. Meanwhile, he had passed away.
The waitress says she last saw him (alive) talking on his phone nine hours before she had come to tell him about his pass expiring. None of the other 30 people in the cafe had noticed that he hadn't moved.
Internet Cafe's in Taiwan are good business but repeated stories of people suffering dehydration because they don't stop playing and such things are often in the press. Apparently this man's cardiac arrest was triggered due to 'low temperatures' but what that means isn't clear. No doubt someone somewhere will use this story to prove how bad video games are.
