Do Gaming will be modifying the Call of Duty 4 (CoD4) and Counter-Strike 1.6 (CS 1.6) Online League rule sets to include map elimination and best of three format.
In the past the maps were assigned and each week’s league matches had to be played on the map for that week.
In DGL 2011, CoD4 teams and CS 1.6 teams will have to play a knife round to decide who gets to eliminate the first map. The teams then elimate a map each until one is left. Alternatively, one side can simply let the other side pick first. The winner of the knife round will have the choice to either eliminate the first map and select sides on the first map or eliminate second.
The loser of the first map will then have the choice of which map to play second. They cannot choose the first map, but can select any of the other four and the winner of the first map gets to choose sides first. Should the loser of the first map win the second map to level the score at 1 – 1, then the loser of the second map will pick the third map. Again the maps from the first two rounds cannot be selected, but they can pick any of the three remaining maps and the winner of the second map gets to choose sides.
The maps in CoD4 will be:
- City Streets
- Crash
- Strike
- Backlot
- Crossfire
The maps in CS 1.6 will be:
- Nuke
- Dust2
- Inferno
- Tuscan
- Train
What the rule set change does is prevent teams from preparing maps for tough games as well as giving teams the chance to come back in close games and perhaps turn a narrow first round loss into a win.
The rules will
change slightly for the lower CoD4 divisions. While the Premier and First Division CoD4 leagues will do the above, divisions two and lower will not be best of three maps but will still have map elimination. This decision was taken because it was felt the lower CoD4 teams play more socially.
The full rule sets will be released before the leagues start.
