Bvd Takes OC

Bravado’s DotA took this last weekend’s Organised Chaos (OC) LAN competition hosted in Cape Town. OC is a 600 seater LAN competition in the Bellville Velodrome.

Bravado took first place in the DotA comp and walked away with five CoolerMaster AM Sphere CPU coolers valued at R579 each. Coming in second was Art of War winning five CoolerMaster Hyper TX2 Copper CPU coolers valued at R249 each.

Gamers wishing to participate pay an entrance fee of R140 for the weekend – from Friday night to Sunday midday. The LAN is mainly a social event, but OC does run competitions sometimes. The January LAN, 23 – 25 January, saw two competitions: DotA and CoD 4 with prizes from Cafe Viva and CoolerMaster.

Richard 'PheonX[eAd]' Townley-Johnson took home a CoolerMaster Cosmos Black Limited Edition case valued at R6999 for winning the CoD 4 “free-for-all” competition. There are only 500 of these Limited Edition cases worldwide, with three of them in South Africa.

Marc ‘Saidin’ Bowes says Bravado won the DotA competition very convincingly simply because there were no other formal teams competing. The other teams were mixed teams and mostly weak rivals, he says.

After Bravado’s win at OC, the team is looking forward to the AGASA DotA competition this weekend.

“After dominating OC and playing a lot of practice rounds since AfriCon, we’re confident for the AGASA competition,” he says.

One of the teams Bravado will be up against is Pantheon’s DotA team. Rob Clegg from Pantheon says the team has been playing every night to get into shape.

“We’ve either been organising games or picking them up on IRC. Obviously Bravado is the team to beat and I think competitions like this really help to grow the DotA community,” he says.

The competition kicks off on Thursday and ends on Sunday.
