ARMA 3 Developers Rename Main Island

In response to the ongoing espionage case against two ARMA developers, Bohemia Interactive has announced that the name of the main island in the game will change from Lemnos to Altis.

"In view of recent events, the team no longer feels passionate about using the previous name, 'Lemnos', and hopes that the new identity, ‘Altis’, will help emphasise the fictional nature of the game," the company says in a statement.

Joris-Jan Van’t Land, project leader working on ARMA 3, states, “As part of the creative process, our virtual environments are often rooted in real-life locations and, during development, they evolve and grow along with our design.”

“The resulting fictional environment is often close to its inspiration, but it's never exactly the same - nor would we want it to be.”

Lemnos is a real-world island on which Ivan Buchta and Martin Pezlar were arrested and held by Greek authorities for 129 days.

ARMA 3 is set to launch in March 2013.
