SA Developers Release Bounty Arms Demo

South African developer Open-Reset has released the demo for Bounty Arms, its 3D side-scroller action game built off Unreal Engine 3.

The demo can be downloaded from Do Gaming using local bandwidth here. Alternatively, gamers can visit the Bounty Arms Moddb page.

Gamers will need Unreal Tournament 3 to play the game, as it is currently a MOD for Unreal Tournament 3. However, Benjamin Duk from Open-Reset says that the game will soon be available as a standalone title, thanks to the release of the Unreal Development Kit (UDK).

Bounty Arms looks like a title that will be loads of fun, taking some old-school platform action and merging it with new-school 3D technology and capabilities.

Players will gather power-ups throughout the game which begin to alter the player's character and weapon arsenal in significant ways. The game will also take place in many different worlds and allow for gamers to join up with other characters as they go. Open-Reset says the full title will also incorporate four player co-operative play (the demo is only single player).

Check out the video for the title here and download the demo here.

Also check out the Bounty Arms Moddb.com page for more info on the game.

See more screenshots and details of the game at the Bounty Arms game page.

Watched the video, it looks pretty cool. The combat looks a little "dull" but the 3D Plat forming looks really really cool!

Will download as soon as I get DSL back at home haha.

Out of interest does it explain what the modders actually built? How many textures / models / animations did they generate kinda thing? Just being nosey

I think they did all the textures themselves. You can keep up to date with developments at their blog here.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the good feedback on the game so far. I just want to answer a few questions for you guys.

@ =BFB= qu1k_sh0t. The game is still no where near to completion in terms of gameplay. What you're seeing now is only about 20-30% of final gameplay, so the combat does appear to be a little dull but we are working on it and the final game will be much more tweaked and improved. Thanks for the feedback, it always helps.

To answer your questions about what we built, textured and animations we did. Everything you see in this game is 100% original. Nothing was taken from UT3 except the use of the engine for lighting etc. It's a total conversion mod meaning that we only use the UT3 engine, but all art resources are created from scratch.

There are about 700+ textures used for this game. This includes, diffuse, specular, normal, glow, and reflection maps.

There are about 315 models. Mostly static, and the rest are skinned for animation purposes.

We did about 70+ aniamtions for the demo so far. This includes the character animations, as well as machinery/scene animation.

I hope this answers your questions

@ r0adrunner. Don't worry a UDK version is close to being released

@ =BFB= qu1k_sh0t, no problem, we want to answer as many questions as possible. Keep a look out for the standalone. It should be arriving within the next 2 weeks, possibly in 1 if all goes well.

@ bvd.Vitrolic, it would be cool to see what you have written. If you have some works please send it through so we can look into it.

Hi Everyone,

With the help of Splat and the hard labour of Obi-Wan, we have now got our first UDK version out. The great thing is that it's now a standalone game and it doesn't require UT3 anymore.

This demo is basically the same as the UT3 mod version, but the UDK has a more updated version of the UE3 engine. So it has real time AO, dynamic lighting on enemies etc.

We've also added a few things, like working turrets, special ability bar, damage material indicator on the player and other small various little addons and tweaks.

I hope you enjoy the UDK demo, and please look forward to future versions.

I will still update this development blog on the future progress of Bounty Arms.

So keep a look out.
