Africon 09Brazen won the first Organised Gamers’ Association (OGA) Frontosa Call of Duty 4 (Cod4) Series competition at Organised Chaos (OC) in Cape Town on the weekend.
Dietmar Rheeder-Kleist, OC organiser, says the competition will be run throughout the year and there will be three more competitions before the Grand Final.
“The competition is not a league, so gamers simply have to play in two of the four events to play in the final. There are R5000 worth of prizes in each of the events and R10 000 worth of prizes at the final event,” he says.
In the first event, a total of ten teams competed in the Cod4 competition and Brazen and miNt squared off in the final, with Brazen winning 13-7 and 13-4, taking home 20GB of RAM.
In the Warcraft III: Defence of the Ancients (DotA) competition, Art of War (AOW) were again losing finalists, with AZN winning the competition after Bravado did not enter. In the last OC, Bravado beat AOW to walk away with five CoolerMaster AM Sphere CPU coolers. However, this time no DotA prizes were offered.
Marc ‘Saidin’ Bowes says seeing as no other top DotA clans entered, Bravado decided to spend the time playing online instead of playing at OC.
OC partners with MSSA
Rheeder-Kleist says in future, all players who compete in OC competitions will have to be part of Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA). They will either have to be part of an MSSA club or join the Organised Gamers’ Association (OGA) which is a MSSA club.
OC is partnering with the MSSA to host Africon 09. “The MSSA wanted to run Africon 09 in Cape Town this year. We have met with the council of the city of Cape Town who is keen to sponsor the event and see gaming become a premier sport in the city.
“We’re looking to host it in the first week of December, however, both the Velodrome (where OC is hosted) and the Good Hope Centre are booked out, so we’re checking whether those venues will open up or if we can find an alternate location,” he says.
