Dustin 'KonTraBanN' RhodesBravado rolled over Synergy Gaming (sG) OmledoFramarge 18 – 6 on the map Strike last night in the Call of Duty 4 (CoD4) Telkom Do Gaming Online League 2010.
Bravado are very focused after their early season loss to Pantheon Gaming. Sean “Roadrunner” Grobler from Bravado says after winning a lot of tournaments last year the team was perhaps a bit complacent at the start of the season.
“After losing to Pantheon, the guys have really woken up. With SG being such a good team, we got our grenades in order and stratted for the game. We came out firing and everyone did their job well,” he says.
After losing the knife round, Bravado attacked first. Grobler says they expected a 7 – 5 half time score, but they seemed to roll over SG who Grobler notes were playing with a sub. As a result, Bravado went into the half 10 – 2 up and got to 13 – 2 in the second half.
“The second round their attack was pretty good. I flanked through from B bombsite quite a lot. If they were going to the A bombsite, I took them out from the side. But they clutched really well. Dustin 'KonTraBanN' Rhodes took three of us out in like 10 seconds at one point,” he says.
Rhodes says with John 'Fingazz' Langford (their strat caller) not playing, things just did not feel right.
“We had a bad game and they played really well. They steam rolled us. We tried to prepare, but playing with a substitute disrupted us,” he says.
Both teams feel there is a definite gap between the top two teams and the rest of the Premier League as there was last year. LaRd may well be on a par with Pantheon Gaming and Bravado, but have to prove it seeing as they still have to play both teams as well as SG.
Grobler believes it’s a strategy and teamwork issue. “A lot of the teams fail to close out. I have been in 1v2 situations often and the guys don’t work together to close me out. There is a lot of skill, but a number of teams just don’t have the rights strategic gameplay or the calling needed,” he says.
Rhodes believes Pantheon and Bravado have just put in more game time. “They have the time to work on it. And the two teams are spurring each other on, challenging each other to get better,” he says. “But as long as we can play with our full team, we are optimistic about doing well for the remainder of the leg.”
