Devon ‘Red’ Hutchison currently sits second in Group A, two points behind fellow Veneration team-mate and group leader Frikkie 'Frikster' le Grange and three points clear of third.
Hutchison has been a prolific member of the Starcraft 2 community as far back as 2011 and has steadily made his way up all the way from the Fifth Division to the near top for the First Division.
Telkom Do Gaming (DG): You have made a very impressive start to the Summer Leg, besting all your opponents 2 – 0. Who was arguably your most difficult match-up?
Hutchison: I would have to say it was my teammate VnR|GangreL. We watch each other when we practice so it was difficult; we both had an idea of what the other was doing.
DG: There is still a long way to go till the end of the Leg. Are you confident you can maintain your current run of form and how do you prepare for each game?
Hutchison: Yes I do. When preparing for a DGL game I like to ladder a lot. I also ask some of my teammates to help me out. VnR|GuMMie is always a great Terran to practice against and VnR|vortex is my Zerg training partner. I also make sure my mindset is right before each game I play.
DG: Who are you most looking forward to facing in the weeks to come?
Hutchison: I would have to say DvGǂHoender. It is going to be hard since he is also Master League but I’m really looking forward to the match.
DG: At the 2012 Do Gaming Championships (DGC) you managed to reach the last 16 before being eliminated by Premier League star, Dean 'Nibby' Loots. What positives were you able to take away from the tournament?
Hutchison: Nibby and I have met in the DGL before where he got the better of me so when it came to the DGC I hoped I wouldn’t meet him until the latter stages of the competition. I held on and never gave up but Nibby is a great Zerg and I’m looking forward to (hopefully) facing him again.
DG: With the release of Heart of the Swarm (HotS) just around the corner, are you excited about a shift in the competitive environment or do you feel it will hamper the community?
Hutchison: Yes and No. HotS has new units and builds which keep the game exciting but I have fallen in love with WoL so I’m not exactly looking forward to the shift. As for the community, I think it will thrive, especially the Zergs. Personally I’m looking forward to the Protoss expansion.
DG: Apart from competing weekly in the First Division, you are also competing in the 2v2 Leg with fellow team-mate Liam 'vortex' Norman. How do find team based competition compared to that of a singles competitor?
Hutchison: My Zerg buddy, Vortex, is awesome to play with and it’s a good way to relax from the heavy strain of the 1v1 competition.
DG: Third place is currently shared by Hendrik 'Hoender' Bence, DvGǂCrono and Kenneth 'Slade' Willmore. What are your predictions for the final three of the Summer Leg?
Hutchison: Although they are tied I really feel that DvGǂCrono will take 2nd and Hoender 3rd. I have played Crono before, he is a great player and I am looking forward our match.
