Energy eSports Overcome ASF

Last night saw two of the ‘big four’ taking each other on in the Dota 2 Telkom Do Gaming League (DGL) 2013 Summer Leg where Energy eSports edged a win over ASF (or RoccatSA).

Energy eSports was able to win the series 2 – 0 with some really strong play in both games. The first was almost entirely an Energy affair as they finished off their opponents in a clinical fashion. The second game saw ASF (RoccatSA) fight back harder and it ended up being a much closer game. At the end though, Energy was able to take both wins to give themselves four points, joining kknP at the top of the Premier Division for now.

Telkom Do Gaming spoke to Ryan ‘xeRa’ O’Doherty about last night’s game and he was able to pin-point a few areas where his team was strong.

“The only way to look at the first game would be to say it was pretty one-sided. They didn’t play badly by any means but I think our smoke-timings, positioning and team-fights were just really well executed at the right times,” he says.

The second game was a lot closer because ASF (RoccatSA) chose more of a defensive line-up so it was tough for Energy to abuse the lead they had. ASF picked up a Shadowfiend and a Luna to keep them in with a shot for the late game but O’Doherty says that his team managed to break into the base.

“It took a while for us to figure out what we needed to do to break through into their base. We had some indecision on our part that allowed them to keep the team fights quite even. We eventually just out-farmed and out-leveled them and managed to pick off the Shadowfiend, which allowed us to take the middle barracks and the top melee barracks,” he says.

In terms of the draft, O’Doherty says that he was confident in their drafting in both games and they had a specific plan set up to disrupt the farm of Wesley ‘oDu’ Rose on his Shadowfiend.

“Ryan ‘Radiant’ Tsang and myself smoked up at level one and went to put a ward behind their tier two tower middle to give us vision. With the vision, when the courier came to give the Shadowfiend his bottle, Leon ‘Flarez’ Wong would teleport with Nature’s Prophet and kill the courier before he could get the bottle,” he says.

O’Doherty says that the tactic set the solo middle hero back quite a bit. But he adds that this is not really going to work anymore because the team has now shown players the strategy. But they were happy with it.

“Finally I just want to give a shout-out to our sponsors, Monster and SteelSeries for being awesome and also a shout-out to Sakkie ‘RandomHero’ Basson for always believing in us,” he says.
